Green & Good!

Located in the heart of the rice fields and local community, our family take the 'eco' part of our cozy and comfortable guest houses to heart.  While offering our guests a warm welcome, we are also taking action to benefit people and nature.

Our guest houses were designed and crafted by a local, Chiang Mai architect, from beautiful, reclaimed and restored wood. Many charming features, including our cushions, curtains, curtain rings, hand basins, bathroom tiles, and lampshades were hand and heart made by local community members, living in our village.

Our commitment and action are recognized by the Good Travel Seal (GTS) Award, and TAT STAR 5 Star Award. Harmony@Huailan Home Ecolodge was also selected by Thailand's Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a case study for small scale, low carbon accommodation.

Below are 10 concrete actions, which we are taking to benefit the environment:

✓Over 90% of the wood used to build our guest houses is reclaimed and restored from old houses;

✓ Over 80% of our electricity is generated onsite, sustainably, from 10 kw of solar with a battery;

✓ We carefully selected superior quality, energy and water efficient equipment. This includes top of the range, highest-rated energy efficient inverter air conditioning units, energy efficient water heaters, energy efficient refrigerators, warm LED lights, and water saving toilets and showers.

✓ The lights used throughout our garden are 100% independently solar powered;

✓ We have a unique, small scale, solar powered wastewater treatment system, using live microbes;

✓ We have designated wild areas for small-scale carbon capture and local habitat conservation;

✓ We buy almost all of our food and beverages locally, and proudly and actively support community based tourism in our village;

✓ We decorated our guest houses with sustainably harvested rattan products, hand-woven by local community members in our village;

✓ We are an active member of Thailand Carbon Neutral Network; and recognised, best practice case for small-scale, low carbon accommodation in Thailand.

✓ We host students and study groups, to raise awareness, share our work and inspire other Micro and Small businesses to apply lessons learned.

Our Microbes Need You!

We have a wonderful, organic water treatment system, which relies on living microbes!

To keep our microbes alive and heathy, we ask our guests to please use the organic soap and shampoo which we provide for your convenience, and to please not use strong laundry detergents or flush antiseptics, medicines or other cleaning liquids into the toilet, or the sink. If you need to do laundry, just ask us, and we will help. If you have any questions, we are very happy to answer.
